It's another critter day or should I say night!

0300 is when I heard the trap snap. My husband heard it too. My son sent him a text message that the mouse was not dead and it was the trap beside his bed that had snapped.

My husband now sleeps with a stash of small plastic bags beside his bed so that when a mouse trap snaps he can go and remove the mouse.

So up he got and took the still dying mouse outside.

We couldn't sleep.  That is the first Mouse we have caught inside the main portion of the house and on the second floor no less. We've been catching mice in the extension and have heard scratching and chewing in the extension ceiling so nothing surprises us if it happens in the extension.  But we have been so careful in the main portion of the house to lock away all our food, make sure there's nothing attractive to mice. But obviously not careful enough.

Plus maybe rats too?

I've been avoiding calling an exterminator, hoping that we could block off most of the holes ourselves with copper mesh but the Critter situation just seems to get worse. Probably because winter is coming and they are looking for someplace warm.

Coupled with the still spritely box elder beetles and cluster flies that climb on my netting around our bed I am thinking tomorrow is "find a good exterminator" day.

For your viewing pleasure I have created a box elder beetle scavenger hunt below. I took these pictures in our bathroom at the back of the extension that is slowly sinking into the ground....

One dead and two alive box elder beetles in my bathroom in the extension.
A box elder beetle on the washroom waste basket.
On the ceiling.
On the paneling.
Can you find this box elder beetle?
