The Septic System- My Expensive Poop
I seem to write a lot about poop these days. Who knew that buying a house would make me focus on the state of my bowels and what is coming out and where it is going.
As mentioned earlier, I may have to put in a septic system and the "It'll be between 30000-35000," has blossomed into, "It starts at $60000!"
This means, of course, that my shit is worth its weight in gold.
I want to get us off the grid as much as possible.
And this means I have bought a water saving dishwasher. And I am looking at buying a water saving laundry set.
We have bought water saving toilets and a water saving shower head.
But what about a composting toilet? Or an incinerator toilet? And a greywater system?
Stop right there!
You need a permit for that!
A greywater system in Ontario requires no more 1000 litres emptied into it per day. That means a house is allowed to send 365000 litres a year down the drain! My septic system is supposed to hold 2500 litres for the size of my house!
So no matter what I do the township will have to get involved. And approve or disapprove.
Trying to be climate friendly really is challenging. Sigh.
