Sunday night and.....

Well, the house has had it's last jacking this past week and so far no ceilings have caved in! Woot!!!! (Just imagine the look on my face when Chris told me some of the workmen from Levelit had mentioned it was a possibility!)

This has been a good weekend. Went to a lovely concert in Kingston (Melos!) and got to see the grandkids and watch the Santa Claus Parade and strip wallpaper from what will be Chris's future office (not all at the same time of course!)

Ceiling damage from the window air conditioner and the jacking. My biggest fear is that when I take the paper off the ceiling will come down! To steam this or not to steam this will be a big question....

The blah paper to be removed- everywhere else (except the kitchen) the paper is charming (but will be removed!) But this is boring, damaged and just ugh.

We've worked to clear out all the boxes and bookcases so the room is empty now.

I did this section first with a spray bottle of water and a scrapper. Took me about 40 minutes. I put the blue towel on the wall to make sure it stays wet and moist while I am working on another section. The upside of this method is it is nothing but you, a spray bottle and a scrapper. And patience, lots of patience. You have to give the water time to soak in. With this wall paper, scoring was important before you put the water on. And it came off in two layers. The top, and then squirt , squirt, wait....and then the bottom. There is so much adhesive in the wallpaper that when I picked up off the floor it left glue trails for me to wash up later.
This was done in the same amount of time, but with a steamer. Except, 20 minutes of it was waiting for the steamer to boil the water to create the steam. Very fast, most of the time the top layer and the bottom layer came off together (though not always). Very hot because it's steam. It warns you not to stand under it while using it. I can understand why! This is the way I expect I will ne doing most of the walls.

This will probably take a few weeks to remove all the wallpaper and wash all the walls before painting.

Colour we are thinking of for the room? Sunflower yellow.
