Where did February Go?

And just like that, it is mid-March! And spring!

Right now we are dealing with a stream running through our basement. It is so bad we have bought a marine pump to keep the basement dry. We are hoping that the installation of eavestroughs in April will help divert water away from basement. With the redoing the landscaping around the house and digging proper drains around the house we are hoping that the water problems of this winter/spring will be resolved.

I didn't get a lot done in February unfortunately as in late January I injured my left knee and my right ankle. So a large portion of February was spent on the couch with a compression bandage and ice and physiotherapy every week. I have 4 more weeks to go and then hopefully I can take off the knee brace!

But I have started this:

My front hall. While the green is lovely upstairs in the sunlight down here in the front hall it is soupy and dark. With the removal of my original front wood door that will happen in April (I still have to remove all the paint around the exterior doors as it has lead in it so they can be installed) it is going to be even darker in this area. So a much lighter paint is required. New paint requires flat, crack free walls.

With the jacking of the house there was additional cracking of the plaster lathe. Areas of previous repairs became more obvious. Some repair areas just fell off the wall. Chris and I discussed pulling down the plaster lathe (particularly the ceiling) but I said no. Just too much mess. So Chris bought me plaster lathe washers that I use with drywall screws and I am using them to solve the issue. If you are in Canada, Lee Valley has them. They work really well and are an inexpensive alternative to pulling down your plaster lathe.

With this dark green paint I have applied a primer as this paint may be oil. I am using chalk paint on the walls. Good coverage, easy to apply and forgiving of less than perfect walls. Nice matte finish.
